About the event

Lit Voices is a monthly series designed to honor and acknowledge community contributions of hometown poets, spoken word and rap artists. This free event will take place in the Jack Link’s Legend Lounge at 900 Hennepin each month and will be emceed by high school social worker and President of the Omega Zuluz Twin Cities, Reies Romero.

Each event will include a DJ – the four DJs who will rotate through each event are DJ Snuggles, Dot La Roc, Huh? What??, and Anthony Smoke D.

Desdamona is an International, award winning Poet & Emcee. She is a recipient of 3 MN State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grants and has traveled the US & abroad delivering her lyrics and spoken word, also spending her time in traditional and non-traditional classrooms spaces, working in over 300 schools, prisons & community centers. She co-founded B-Girl Be, a first of its kind celebration of women’s contributions to hip hop culture (2005-2011). She has opened for Wyclef Jean, Bahamadia, KRS One and Guru and has toured with Legendary Reggae Grammy winners Sly & Robbie on a US/Canadian tour (2008).

In 2017, Des was commissioned to create works for two community events, the first being a collaboration with composer Timothy C Takach for a concert with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra celebrating North Minneapolis and the second was in collaboration with the Tubman center for their yearly Starlight Soiree.

Ms. Lutunji is the CEO and founder of Voices of Effective Change, Inc. and will host the Lit Voices series through August 2019. Voices of Effective Change, Inc. is a community advocacy and public relations company with the mission to send the effective voice to the masses, stand with young parents and their parents using the tools of personal empowerment and community development.
